Dr. Ahmed Yusuf, a distinguished public servant and an esteemed Muslim Educationist was laid to rest today in Machakos County. Dr. Yusuf passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of transformative leadership.

Dr. Yusuf served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) from 1978 to 1998, overseeing critical reforms that modernized the country’s examination systems. His two-decade tenure was marked by a commitment to integrity and the standardization of national assessments, shaping the academic futures of countless Kenyan students.
He held esteemed educational committees positions in numerous institutions across the country. Beyond his contributions to education, Dr. Yusuf was a founding member and the long-serving Chairman of Taqwa Sacco, Kenya’s first Shariah-compliant financial cooperative. Under his stewardship, Taqwa Sacco evolved from a modest merry-go-round initiative into a robust financial institution. The Sacco’s adherence to Islamic finance principles, offering interest-free loans and ethical investment opportunities, has been instrumental in promoting financial inclusion among its members .

Dr. Yusuf’s visionary leadership in both the public and cooperative sectors has left an indelible mark on Kenya’s socio-economic landscape. He is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his unwavering commitment to ethical practices and community empowerment.

His legacy includes contributions to high level committees including the recent Presidential Working Party on Educational Reforms where his wisdom and dedication left and indelible mark.
